Our Purpose: These virtual refreshers are intended as being a continuing education conference for EMS and nurses. Our focus is on pre-hospital care that is needed to obtain continuing education as nursing contact hours, CEU/CEH’s to aid in the renewal for national and state registries.
Audience: Registered Nurses and EMS
Objectives: The participant will:

    • Explain the role glucose plays on the cells
    • Explain the role of insulin
    • Identify symptoms commonly associated with hypo/hyperglycemia
    • Identify commonly prescribed medications used to treat diabetes
    • Discuss metabolic syndrome
    • Explain the management of hyperglycemia
    • Explain the management of hypo/hypoglycemia
    • Compare the functions of different insulin pumps
  2. August: Set Me Free Project – Human Trafficking: AT-RISK POPULATIONS -ADULT & PEDIATRIC PATIENTS, 2 HR
    • Determine training resources for special populations-Human trafficking, Domestic violence
    • Recognize and differentiate the unique characteristics of at-risk populations
    • Determine the appropriate actions of EMS professionals in the presence of at-risk patients
    • Recognize and state the circumstances that may indicate abuse
    • State appropriate actions of EMS professionals in the presence of abused patients
  3. September-Pediatric Cardiac Arrest/ Transport: PEDIATRIC CARDIAC ARREST, PEDIATRIC PATIENTS, 2 HR
    • Apply ALS management skills during a pediatric cardiac arrest-Airway management, Vascular access,
    • Investigate and state unique causes of pediatric cardiac arrest
    • Describe the current techniques of one and two-rescuer CPR
    • Discuss the current techniques of pediatric cardiac arrest management
      • Explain how to appropriately secure a child safety restraint to a wheeled ambulance stretcher
      • Differentiate between the NHTSA recommendations for safe ambulance transport of children based on the condition of the child
      • Discuss the on-going initiatives to increase the safety of children during ambulance transport
      • Discuss the limitations of the current recommendations

Nursing Contact Hour Information

These courses are grouped and approved in a 3-month section.

  • The courses from July, August and September are approved for 5.0 Contact Hours by IBON Provider #22 DMACC.
  • Contact Hours will only be awarded for full attendance for all three programs in July, August and September.
  • Please Note: No partial credit will be awarded, you must attend all three sections.
  • It is the licensee’s responsibility to determine if the continuing education they attend meet the requirements of their professional board.
